A variety of Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques can be used within a treatment, including:

Acupuncture

Acupuncture originated in ancient China centuries ago, and is used as a method to prevent disease and to bring the body back into harmony when out of balance.  With the insertion of very fine needles into a prescription of specific points along the meridian system, treatment of a disorder begins as the body’s self-healing mechanism is activated.

Modern research shows that stimulating acupuncture points has an effect on the nervous system, promotes an increase in the production of endorphins and simultaneously, activates the immune and endocrine systems.  This has a healing effect on the parasympathetic system and influences the body’s own internal regulating system.  Acupuncture has been proven effective for treating numerous health problems.  Acupuncture is deeply relaxing, results are longer lasting and often immediate.

Acupressure/Tuina

Known as the grandfather of all massage, Tuina was developed in China over 5,000 years ago. This bodywork encompasses reflexology, acupressure and massage. Tuina works on the energy channels and points on the body using the same principles as acupuncture except with the use of hands and fingers instead of needles. This amazing massage session invigorates blood, increases circulation, relieves pain, soothes stress and eases tense, tight muscles.

Moxibustion

Application of the herb Mugwort heated at or near specific acupuncture points.  Moxibustion is great for cold conditions such as joint pain which often gets worse in cold/damp weather.  It is also useful to help break down scar tissue.

Cupping

A comfortable technique using specialized cups placed on various parts of the body to stimulate blood flow.  It is also used to draw illness up and out towards the body surface.  Excellent for muscle aches and pains, as well as cold and flu relief.

Heat Therapy

A magnetic infrared lamp used over areas with or without needles to warm the area, another great technique for cold related conditions.

Gua sha

A superficial skin scraping technique, great for stubborn, chronic pain conditions.

Auricular Therapy

The whole body is mapped out on the ear, so different reflex points are stimulated to enhance a treatment or work on its own.  Auricular therapy is widely used for many conditions, including addiction treatment, mood disorders, obesity, pain, and other conditions.
